Marine surveys, inspections and certificates · IME

Casualty, damage, claims and P&I surveys

IME attends after a collision, grounding, fire, water ingress or machinery failure, for hull and machinery underwriters, P&I Clubs and their correspondents, owners and lawyers. The surveyor establishes the cause, nature and extent of the damage, preserves the evidence and records the facts on which repair, liability and recovery are decided.

Service

When you need it

  1. 01

    A casualty has happened

Collision, grounding, fire, water ingress or machinery failure: the claims handler of the P&I Club or its local correspondent needs a surveyor on board within hours.

  2. 02

A claim is open with the hull underwriter

The underwriter needs the cause, nature and extent of the damage established for the claim.

  3. 03

The vessel enters or renews with a P&I Club

The Club orders a condition or pre-entry survey according to the vessel's age, type, flag and record.

  4. 04

A claim is disputed or goes to court

Adjusters and lawyers need the evidence preserved and the loss assessed, and an expert who can stand before a tribunal.
