Bunker quantity surveys

IME attends the delivery of fuel to a vessel for whoever buys it. The surveyor gauges the tanks before and after, supervises the sampling, follows the delivery and documents the quantity delivered, so a dispute over quantity has an independent record behind it.

Where we attend

Each office attends the ports of its region 24 hours a day, and appointed surveyors attend the ports between them. Choose the port to see who attends.

Service

When you need it

  1. 01

Fuel is delivered to the vessel

The owner, the operator or the charterer who buys the fuel needs the quantity received checked by someone other than the supplier.

  2. 02

The charter party names a bunker surveyor

Delivery and redelivery under a time charter, where the bunkers on board are paid for by one side or the other.

  3. 03

    The quantity is disputed

A short delivery or a difference between the supplier's figure and the vessel's needs an independent record to settle it.

How the survey is done

01

Gauging before the delivery

The vessel's tanks are sounded and the quantity on board is recorded before the first drop is received.

02

Safety inspection and sampling

The surveyor checks the safety of the operation and supervises the drawing of fuel samples.

03

Monitoring the delivery

The delivery is followed from start to finish.

04

Gauging after the delivery

The tanks are sounded again once the delivery ends.

05

Calculation and documentation

The quantity delivered is calculated and documented in the survey report.

Independence

IME attends as an independent surveyor. Findings are recorded as they are, and reports are prepared to stand on their own before third parties. IME's surveys and Bierman Pautt's legal work are contracted, staffed and reported separately.
