Corporate social responsibility
Every company, simply by existing, has social, environmental, and economic impacts. In other words, it leaves a footprint. Therefore, in a complex business world where companies deals with increasing pressure from consumers, investors, and regulators, Sustainability is not just a trend; it is the foundation of business reputation and resilience in the 21st century.
This explains how Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) has evolved from philanthropic management to the foundation of a comprehensive strategy, scaling towards corporate Sustainability and ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) criteria. This approach transcends voluntary actions, integrating Governance to align operations with current demands for transparency, ethical impact, and shared value creation, turning organizations into agents of sustainable change.
Understanding that CSR is about balancing a long-term vision between social development, economic growth, and responsible environmental care, without compromising future resources but still maintaining stakeholder sensitivity, and taking responsibility for our stated public benefit, in consequence, our company's ESG strategy works the same way: it is the compass that ensures that our business continues to navigate in the future without depleting the resources of the environment.
Sustainability
Setting the route for our long term sustainable development
Developed by over 450 experts from 99 countries to harmonize global Social Responsibility standards, ISO 26000 was designed as a practical guidance tool for all organizations, regardless of their size or sector, functioning as a voluntary, non-certifiable framework focused on ethical guidance and risk management rather than abstracts and rigid requirements.
At IME Marine Group, these seven areas establish the starting point for developing our global sustainability strategy, aligned with our business objectives and considering the achievement of results across the triple bottom line (environmental, social, and economic).

Presenting our CSR strategy 2026-2030

Our strategy is structured around three core pillars (People, Planet, and Prosperity), which guides our direct impact across key SDG’s aligned to our core business.
Note: The 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) established by the United Nations in 2015 works as a universal framework to guide all kind of organizations in their sustainability, social responsibility, and strategic planning through 2030 covering a broad range of global challenges, from ending poverty and hunger to ensuring quality education, economic growth, climate action, and peace. Through this understanding, businesses can integrate relevant goals into internal operations, risk management, and product/services innovation.
Spreading the impact
From our head office at Panama to all branches worldwide
The purpose of our Corporate Social Responsibility Strategy is to define the principles, structure, and procedures through which we integrate social and environmental responsibility into our business operations, while intentionally building a legacy for the company and the maritime industry it serves.

01
People
We believe that the challenges of one’s present situation (whether social, economic, or psychological) should never define their future potential, so our focus is on giving hope, dignity, and real change opportunities. Some initiatives are:
Student Scholarships
We support an academic scholarships to top-performing students at the International Maritime University of Panama (UMIP).
Oratory Contest
We sponsor the annual UMIP Seaman’s Day Oratory Contest since 2024 to the date.
Leadership Training
In partnership with UMIP, MTCC Latam, and other key stakeholders, we continue to develop a mentorship program that promotes gender equity and strategic alignment (among the maritime sector's youth leadership) with the most recent update to the STCW Convention.

02
Planet
The sea gives us its livelihood for cargo transportation, vessel services, and marine operations, but we recognize that most human and industrial interactions have an impact on the delicate balance of marine ecosystems, so key initiatives in this pillar include:
Office Recycling
Since 2021, we recycle a wide range of materials such as paper, cardboard, plastics, glass, electronics, and cooking oil, extending the program to employee homes.
Community support and voluntary action
Each quarter, we select and participate in a community cause, and we also collect essential and/or reusable items from staff to support vulnerable groups, shelters, and local NGO.
Carbon Measurement
We are enrolled in the corporate carbon footprint measurement program of Panama’s Ministry of the Environment and will begin submitting data on our recorded emissions in 2025, while working to expand this initiative to our offices around the world.

03
Prosperity
Our best interest is to work in initiatives that expand access to education, training, and leadership opportunities:
Youth Mentorship
We have aligned our efforts with various maritime associations and NGOs operating in our areas of impact to prepare and provide specialized mentorship to vulnerable youth, focusing on the technical skills and soft skills required by the maritime industry.
Policy Partnerships
We collaborate with MAPA and the National Council of Rectors to align panamanian university education with labor market needs and improve youth employment.
Green Corridors
We are developing projects to exchange maritime fleet decarbonization data in the Panama Canal basin, together with key partners such as MTCC Latin America to help build green maritime shipping routes.
Our leadership principle is “Lead to Inspire”
Cross-cutting all three pillars is SDG 17 (Partnerships for the Goals), reflecting our conviction that real transformation is built through strategic alliances across our value chain.
This special route strengthens our internal processes: from digitized reporting and due diligence to community development and environmental stewardship.

Some of the alliances we have established in the short term are:
- 01Panama Canal Authority (ACP)
- 02Panama Maritime Chamber (CMP)
- 03Panama Maritime National Association (MAPA)
- 04The Maritime Technology Cooperation Centre (MTCC Latin America)
- 05International Maritime University of Panama (UMIP)
Our sustainability roadmap
From strategy to implementation. A continuous improvement journey.
Our operational leadership in the maritime industry carries with it a profound responsibility toward the economic, social, and environmental ecosystem. We recognize that adopting responsible practices strengthens our corporate identity and reputation, driving positive change both within the sector and in the community. However, the only way to achieve this in the long term is to acknowledge that sustainability becomes a culture when its very DNA is woven into the system.
Our commitment to change is to growth with purpose driven by the internal conviction that sustainability is not just a goal, but an inspiration to transform every aspect of the business.
This is how we are sailing this route:
Employee commitment
In our CSR culture, employees are encouraged to actively participate in Sustainability improvement efforts. This includes suggesting new initiatives, volunteering for community programs, and sharing field observations. This is how it works:
- The Sustainability Committee reviews all employee proposals quarterly and may integrate them into upcoming projects or training initiatives.
- Recognition is given annually to employees whose ideas have generated measurable impact.
Internal and external communication
Ethical and transparent communication builds trust and participation. All our available channels foster a sense of ownership and pride among employees, whereas external communication ensures that clients, suppliers, partners, and the broader community remain informed and engaged:
- Internal and External Newsletters
- Corporate chat channels
- Workshops and seminars
- Town halls and leadership recognition
- Official website and social platforms
- Client reports
- Press Releases, media articles and share of voice
- Public events and conferences
Governance structure
Our Sustainability framework is administered through a tiered governance model designed to balance strategic oversight with operational execution:
- Board of Directors
- Sustainability committee
- Branch sustainability officers
- Sustainable finances standards
- Marketing and communication allignment procedures
This tiered model help us to endorse the global agenda as a strategic roadmap to drive sustainable local development with an international execution reach.
